Some of the more Complicated Medical and Surgical Cases we can Handle:

  • Diabetes regulation.  We promote high protein-low carb diets and insulin with the goal of remission.
  • Kidney Disease management.  We monitor urine, check blood pressure, can teach how to administer subQ fluids at home and promote lower protein food and potassium supplementation.  Some kitties require additional phosporus trapping medication, medications for increased calcium, and antibiotics when appropriate for infections.
  • Hepatic Lipidosis= Fatty Liver syndrome.  We are skilled at placing feeding tubes as a bridge to get us to the time the liver disease is reversed and the cat can eat enough calories on their own.
  • Innappropriate Urination: Diet, behavior, stress, metabolism, infections all play a role in urinating outside the box.  We can help you get this common problem sorted out and find a solution that works for your family!
  • Hypertension.  We have several different methods to measure and monitor blood rpessure.  We have reversed sudden blindness in a few cats, reveresed kidney disease and minimized the effects of strokes by managing blood pressure.
  • Arthritis: We have supplements and prescription diets proven to lessent the effects of arthritis pain.  We also have a Therapy LASER that can treat specific joints or areas that are painful. Call us, we have had great success with older slower cats!
  • Compounded medications.  We have several injectable long-acting medications such as a 2 week antibiotic shot, a 3 day pain shot and a 2 week ear treatment in which you don't have to medicate your cat!  We also work closely with several pharmacies for options of transdermal medications, flavored medications, and soft chewey treats.
  • Dental Care. We stress prevention and will work with you to establish an oral health maintenance plan.  Cat dentistry requires gas anesthetic, high speed drills and specialized instruments for their tiny mouths.  All kitties get an IV catheter and fluids with each procedure. This is very important to preventing kidney damage from blood pressure fluctuations.  Because we have a dental Xray unit, we are able to better treat resorptive lesions, extract teeth appropriately, and diagnosis tooth abscesses.   We also can use the injectable 3 day pain shot, or the 2 week antibiotic shot so you don't have to medicate your cat!
  • Pancreatitis: Several of our doctors are skilled at Ultrasound to diagnosis this common cause of inappetnace and vomting in cats.  With the new 3 days pain shot and longer antibiotics we are able to get them back to normal sooner.
  • Ear Care: We have had several cats referred in with long-standing middle ear infections and wax-balls in the middle ear.  Dr. Brad has been able to treat and cure the disease with persistant care and avoid even costlier ear surgery.  Dr. Brad is excellent at finding the underlying causes and using that in preventing recurrence.
  • Hyperthyroidism.  We have some cats on methimazole to control hyperthryoidism with good success.  Blood pressure and heart disease must be monitored.  Dr. Ralph, Minnesota's leading specialist in feline hyperthyroidism treats the cats with radio-active iodine in a special facility in Richfield, then he will do the rechecks right here at our clinic.  We have had all the cats cured using this method.  Symptoms include weight loss, itching, and increased thirst or appetite.
  • Orthopedics: Dr. Katie has done many surgeries to fix broken hips in young cats with soft growth plates that seperate after jumping down from a high place.  In addition we have repaired  quite a few fractured legs with pins plates and screws when needed.  Cats can tear cruciates too: most aren't surgical but we can do medical care and offer the new therapy LASER treatments.  We are fully equipped to handle nearly every orthopedic problem.
